Appeals

Our lawyers have tried 15 cases to verdict in the recent past.  It follows that Preg O’Donnell’s commitment to excellence and service requires that the firm have the capability to defend those victories or to overturn adverse rulings in appellate courts across the region.

We handle appeals at all levels of the Washington appellate courts, in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the United States Supreme Court, and the Alaska and Oregon appellate courts.

Appellate practice requires a detailed knowledge of the special procedures and rules.  Appellate brief writing and oral advocacy skills are distinct from the trial and litigation skills needed to navigate the discovery, depositions and trial process.  Appeals turn on arguments to judges based on the written record of the trial and the case law governing the issues.

Our appellate lawyers analyze the trial court proceedings and identify the best arguments for appeal, separating the winning arguments from those that will distract the appellate court from those winning arguments.

Appellate lawyers with Preg O’Donnell are available to consult at every stage of litigation, before and during trial, and after the verdict. Many of the firm’s lawyers have handled cases before the Court of Appeals and Washington Supreme Court.

A list of appellate cases handled by the firm is available upon request.
