Preg O’Donnell member Emma Gillespie will present at the 2012 School Law Conference regarding liability concerns arising from procurement of local foods by school districts as well as Farm-to-School programs. School districts have recently started implementing programs such as school gardens and procuring more fresh local produce from local farmers as a result of encouragement from local communities as well as federal and state issued initiatives. These programs achieve many excellent goals, but also have the potential to create liability exposure for school districts, which will be the focus of the presentation. The School Law Conference is co-hosted annually by the Washington Schools Risk Management Pool and the Washington School Personnel Association, and will take place on October 22, 2012, and October 23, 2012.
